Brunei- Chapter 11: Breakaway in Kuala Lumpur March 2013

KL is growing on us- most definitely. A few days away with great food, museums, markets, lakes and parks, shopping and a lot of walking, of course, was most refreshing! A vibrant city by all accounts.

Dinner at Sao Nam, an upscale Vietnamese restaurant near Bukit Bintang, was well worth a visit on our first evening followed by a walk down Jalan Alor and a massage. Our first day was spent visiting the National Museum which, besides the permanent exhibits on Malay culture and history, hosted a temporary exhibition of masks around the world that was most original. Central Market was our next stop. We tried the "Doctor fish spa" for the first time, a most peculiar sensation though not unpleasant; Indian for lunch in a narrow alleyway where all the locals go- great taste! We went to Sze Ya Temple, a fascinating taoist temple in the heart of the city, which was beautiful and somewhat different from other temples. Later on, shopping at a couple of malls and "Famous Beef Noodles" in the street for dinner, just like a few months ago when we were still in China- a delight!

On day 2, a visit at the Islamic Arts Museum was far from disappointing. This magnificent building hosts collections of Islamic Arts from the past empires from the Middle East to the Southern parts of this region of the world, ranging from Iran, Turkey, India, China... Quite astonishing. Lunch in Little India and a well-deserved nap at Titiwangsa Lake and Garden before walking back into town. Finally, dinner in Chinatown to round things off.

Now, back home in the village. :)
