I know what you're thinking, "school trip? No, thank you." But in the Philippines? Really cool, actually. Great itinerary, great groups of students, hilarious colleague. The only low point because there is always one, right? The travelling in the middle of the night there and back. A 2am flight is... frankly shattering but the trip was a holiday- for all. So, totally worth it.
Day 1: Manila- Visit to a housing project (people from the slums and they mushroom all over the city- get to build their own home in a secure village, "a village in the city")- Tiendesiaes craft and antiques market.
Day 2: Departure for Lago de Oro Beach Club in Batangas province- kayaking and snorkelling in the mangrove (absolutely beautiful and unspoiled)- wake boarding, swimming pool, basketball and volleyball.
Day 3: Departure for Lake Taal and Talisay town- boat ride and horse riding or trekking up the mountain to the top of the volcano ( a lake within a lake due to many volcanic eruptions along the millenies and centuries)- visit of rice museum at IRRI in Calamba and Los Banos- visit of University of Philippines- evening in Manila.
Day 4: trekking, biking and soil planting at La Mesa Watershed and Eco-Park- treat at a mall in the evening.
Day 5: City tour of Manila Intramuros (Manila's old core)- National Museum- Rizal Park for a bit of history!- last few hours at one of the biggest shopping malls in Asia aptly named Mall of Asia.
A very successful and fun trip!
